Ayurveda in Perth Hills

Ayurveda is a traditional system of health and wellbeing that originated in India more than 3,000 years ago. The word Ayurveda comes from Sanskrit: “Ayur” meaning life and “Veda” meaning knowledge or science, often translated as “the science of life.”

Ayurveda takes a holistic, individualised and mind–body approach to wellbeing, recognising that each person has their own unique physical and mental constitution. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, Ayurvedic care considers the whole person, including body, mind, digestion, lifestyle, diet, sleep, daily routines and the surrounding environment.

Many Ayurvedic principles reflect what is now commonly described as a mind–body approach to health. Ayurveda has long recognised that mental and physical wellbeing are interconnected, and that factors such as stress, emotions, sleep, digestion, lifestyle and daily habits can influence overall wellbeing. This interconnected view of the mind and body remains an important part of Ayurvedic practice today.

A central concept in Ayurveda is the balance of the three functional principles known as Vata, Pitta and Kapha (the Doshas). An Ayurvedic consultation considers a person's natural constitution (Prakriti) as well as their current state of balance (Vikriti) to help guide an individualised approach to care.
